Hat-trick of new sites for Redrow

11th February 2007 Print
A triple bonanza of new developments with an estimated finished value of over £82.5 million confirms Redrow Homes’ place as a major player in the Scottish housing market.

They include a 20-acre development of circa 340 new homes opposite the Braehead shopping centre and X-scape indoor ski centre, near Renfrew, with a finished worth alone of almost £65.4 million.

The other two schemes are Redrow’s first venture in Perthshire, at Aberuthven, featuring executive four and five-bedroom luxury homes; and a development of 55 houses and flats in Falkirk.

Colin Crombie, Scotland Managing director for Redrow, comments: “We recently stated that our primary focus is to secure more land and to drive the business forward. These new acquisitions will make a major contribution to our target of significantly expanding the number of homes we build in Scotland over the next five years from the current level of 500 per annum.

“These land acquisitions will also help us as we work towards developing separate East and West coast operations.”

Redrow’s first scheme in Perthshire is a 5.2 acre site in the village of Aberuthven, which has detailed planning consent for the first six units and an outline consent for a further 27 properties. The development will comprise four and five-bedroom luxury housing on the site of a former garden centre. The location is just off the main street in Aberuthven, close to the town of Auchterarder and only five miles from the Gleneagles hotel and resort. This project will have an estimated finished value of circa £10.4 million and Redrow hopes to release the first plots for sale in April/May.

The Braehead site of just over 20 acres was previously part of the Macfarlanes steel yard and has detailed planning consent for 342 units. These will include a wide mix of one and two-bedroom flats, two and three bedroom terrace and semi-detached house, three and four-bedroom townhouses and four-bedroom detached homes. The development is situated off Kings Inch Road, opposite the X-scape indoor ski centre and Braehead shopping centre. Redrow is aiming to launch sales by the beginning of May.

Redrow’s scheme will benefit from the widespread redevelopment of the Braehead area, including its redundant dock areas, where the masterplan allows for junction improvements to the M8 as well as road improvements around the shopping centre and the construction of a new riverside park beside the Clyde.

A June/July sales launch is planned for the new Falkirk development, which is adjacent to a previously successful Redrow scheme, off Etna Road. The latest site of just over two acres is zoned for housing in the local plan. Previously a Jewsons building yard, Redrow will redevelop the site to create 55 properties, including two-bedroom flats, plus three and four-bedroom terraced, semi and detached homes. It will have an estimated finished worth of almost £7 million.

In the meantime, Larbert-based Redrow is already building contemporary apartments and town houses close to Glasgow and Edinburgh city centres, as well as more traditional family housing in Kilwinning, Cambuslang, Gartcosh, Glenboig, Lanark and Dunfermline. Further information, visit redrow.co.uk.
