RICS: Closure of rural Post Offices

17th May 2007 Print
Commenting on the closure of rural post offices, RICS spokesperson, Damian Cleghorn said: "The closure of 2,500 rural post offices will do nothing to re-invigorate rural England. If communities are to flourish, direct action will be needed to develop sustainable communities by creating integrated transport infrastructures, improving employment opportunities and by building affordable housing. It makes no sense for people to get into their cars and make journeys for services that were previously available in their community. Post office closures will do nothing to cut emissions and protect the environment. On one hand the Government claims to be committed to meeting climate change targets, but it is clear that there is no joined up thinking in Whitehall."
