energy-assessors responds to announcement that HIPs are delayed

22nd May 2007 Print
Stephen Callaghan, Director of energy-assessors.com responds to Ruth Kelly's announcement that the implementation of HIPs will be delayed until 1st August, when they will be implemented for sales of properties with four or more bedrooms.

"Consumers and industry must try not panic at this latest development. This is not the end of the road for those who have undertaken training to become Energy Assessors. They can rest assured that the requirement for their skills will come into force on 1st August, when they will be required to carry out EPCs on all homes for sale with four or more bedrooms, soon to be followed by the rest of the UK's housing stock.

"As the Government is convinced that the 1st June deadline cannot be met, it is logical to defer the launch date and introduce transitional measures. This will then make the transition more achievable for the industry and consumers alike. The newly introduced timetable will provide the opportunity for an even greater number of DEAs to qualify and be ready for implementation on August 1st."
