Yorkshire’s burglary hotspots announced - Be safe in a new home!

31st May 2007 Print
Safety and security are top priority for Miller Homes Two of Yorkshire’s most cosmopolitan cities have unfortunately been named in the Endsleigh Insurance research as being a place most at risk from burglary.

Leeds came second and Sheffield came nine out of 10 places named around the country.

Carolyn Rushbrook, the sales director for the UK’s largest privately owned housebuilder, Miller Homes (Yorkshire) said: “The research said that people living in these 10 cities face almost double the chance of being burgled as those in more secure areas. Being a new home provider, we are aware of the need to make our living environments as secure as possible and make our customers feel safe in their own home.”

Miller Homes has developments across the whole of the Yorkshire region including Leeds and Sheffield and advise that one advantage of buying a newly built home is that safety and security measures often come as standard.

Carolyn continued: “New homes are governed by regulations so buyers can be doubly sure that our homes provide a very high level of safety. This isn’t always the case with older houses which may well have been built without such rigorous legislations in place. Adding features such as burglar alarms to most properties is something we choose to do as an additional safeguard for our customers.”

Miller Homes include security systems, smoke alarms and window locks in its properties using the latest technology to keep all homes and occupants as safe as possible.

External doors are made of steel for superior strength and toughened glass is another feature of both doors and windows. The window locks are based on a multi-point system whereby certain windows extend fully as a means of escape and other open only partially to avoid the risk of accidents.

“It is disappointing to hear that two of our county’s greatest cities have been named in this research although I think that Leeds and Sheffield have many positive attributes that far outweigh the research findings,“ concluded Carolyn.
