Bellway nominated as number one for regeneration skills In a new survey focusing upon leading regeneration practitioners, housebuilder Bellway has been ranked top in the UK in the residential construction field and as one of the country’s leading regeneration companies.

The survey, conducted by ‘Regenerate’ magazine, requested nominations from architects, local authorities and building consultants across the country demonstrating good practice in processes, teamwork, delivery and lasting quality. The final ranking was then undertaken by leading professionals in regeneration from across the public and private sectors.

Bellway is ranked amongst the top ten organisations for its skills in delivering major regeneration schemes and leads the housebuilding sector in this field.

Ian Cox, Managing Director of Bellway City Solutions, Bellway’s specialist regeneration arm, said: “We have been delivering and investing in major regeneration schemes long before regeneration became fashionable. We have honed and developed our skills over many years and can field a team of specialists able to tackle the most complex of schemes. We are delighted that our skills have been recognised and it is all the more pleasing that our industry’s peers have handed us this accolade.”

Bellway can track its regeneration skills back to the creation of the country’s first new town: Cramlington in Northumberland which began in the 1960s and today has a population of around 39,000. Later schemes involved the creation of a new community in Hull developed on former dockland.

Currently, Bellway is involved in delivering Government Pathfinder schemes in Newcastle and Liverpool; it has also been selected as the preferred developer for the 4,000 acre East and South East Leeds regeneration programme, and is the lead developer in the regeneration of north Solihull which will see the creation of 5,000 new homes. In the Thames Gateway, Bellway has formed Barking Riverside Ltd, a joint venture with the Government’s regeneration agency, English Partnerships, to transform former industrial land at Barking Reach, fronting the River Thames, into a new community of 10,800 homes. Bellway is also the first residential developer to be granted planning permission on the Greenwich Peninsula.
