Persimmon launches Severn Valley region

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley will be overseen by managing director Carl Haley (35), who joins the new region from his previous position as managing director for David McLean Homes in South Wales. With comprehensive experience working across South Wales and the South West, Carl has ambitious plans for the company and aims to legally complete the sale of over 300 units in its first year:
“The creation of the Severn Valley region demonstrates Persimmon Homes’ continuing commitment to the region and I am very much looking forward to driving the company forward in what is a very strong local marketplace,” commented Carl. “My initial objective for the region will be to continue the success of the former Persimmon regions, whilst also actively seeking new land opportunities to create new thriving and active communities. Working with a highly experienced team, we will create exciting new developments within the region as we strive to offer an exciting choice of homes to suit purchasers from first time buyers to growing families.”
Nigel Greenaway, divisional chief executive for Persimmon Homes’ South Division comments: “The Severn Valley region has been created to build on the significant growth and expansion of the Wessex and South West regions, which were some of the most successful within the Group. Severn Valley’s creation will allow all the companies greater scope to meet current market demands and will facilitate expansion into new areas. These are extremely exciting times for Persimmon Homes as a whole and we look forward to watching Severn Valley develop over the coming years.”
Sites acquired by Persimmon Homes Severn Valley from the restructuring of the Wessex and South West regions include 700 units in Portishead, over 450 units in Weston-Super-Mare, some 500 units in Bridgwater plus a substantial development in Stroud. Alongside this, the company has already acquired sites in Dursley, Gloucestershire, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset and Ashley Down, Bristol with plans to focus strongly on further opportunities within the city. The region also has a strong strategic land bank and will be promoting new sites such as Weston Airfield for development over the next few years.
Persimmon Severn Valley will be moving to purpose built offices in Weston-super-Mare during 2008, but are currently based in Bridgwater. The company currently employs 19 members of staff with the intention of having a team of 23 by the end of 2007.
