Redrow’s Mark Symonds, winner of the National House-Building Council ‘Pride in the Job’ Quality award Welsh target shooter Mark Symonds had all the ammunition he needed when he aimed for a prestigious award. Dedication to the job, commitment and a hard working team helped the 36-year-old pick up the impressive National House-Building Council ‘Pride in the Job’ Quality award.

The site manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales) currently works at the company’s John Fielding Gardens development at Llantarnam, building a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes.

Mark, who has worked for the company for seven years, said the development provided him with his first opportunity to strive for the title.

He said: “This was the first site I had managed from the beginning and I was determined to achieve everything necessary to qualify for the award.

“It took a lot of hard work but the recognition of all that effort makes it worthwhile.”

Mark, who is getting married to his fiancé Rhiannon in November, received the award for demonstrating consistently good working practices, high quality management and motivational skills. He is one of only 400 quality award winners from over 18,000 eligible site managers in the UK.

He will now go forward to compete for the NHBC’s Seal of Excellence, presented to only 100 site managers.

In his spare time Mark, who lives in a Redrow home in Abergavenny, has represented his country in clay pigeon shooting and the keen field sportsman also practices ‘rough’ shooting.

Peter Shergold, Redrow’s construction director for South Wales, said: “Mark was absolutely determined to win this award and his hard work has paid off. He is one of 12 Redrow quality award winners this year – four of whom are based in South Wales.”

House prices at Redrow’s luxurious John Fielding Gardens venture currently range from £449,995 for a four-bedroom house to £529,995 for a five-bedroom detached property. A deluxe five-bedroom Windermere house, similar to the show home, starts at £481,950.
