Birthday delight for Charles Church Land Manager August 13th was a special day for Steve Rickard in more than one way. Not only was it his 30th birthday, he was also promoted to Charles Church Wales’ Land Manager. Steve, who did a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering, started his career in the housebuilding industry in 1999 in the customer relations department at Westbury Homes. He then signed up for the company’s graduate training scheme, where he gained experience in all parts of the business.

Steve explains: “After working in all the different areas I was given the option of choosing which department I wanted to work in. I decided to go into land, as it would give me the opportunity to deal with a huge variety of people on a daily basis. Land is also an area which is of paramount importance to the housebuilding industry; a business can live or die depending on the land it buys.”

Steve now joins Charles Church Wales’ Senior Land Manager Rachel English on the land management team, where they work together sourcing land throughout southern Wales for the housebuilder to buy and develop on.

Talking about his promotion, Steve says: “It was an aim of mine to be land manager by the time I was 30. By the time I’m 40 I’d like to be land director!”

In his spare time, apart from studying for a Planning degree, Steve enjoys surfing, hill walking and climbing. He also captains the Charles Church Wales 5 a side football team, which competes in the Cardiff Gol Centres leagues.

Charles Church has developments all over South Wales including Bryncleddau in Caerphilly, Avonlea in Marshfield and Maes-Y-Ceffyl in Church Village. There are also developments in Llanishen, Llanelli, Carmarthen and Risca.
