Staff to show some Miller respect

24th October 2007 Print
Staff to show some Miller respect Miller Homes is asking the people of Yorkshire to play a role in assessing its performance as home builders following the launch of a 24 hour hotline to log complaints and respond to comments regarding its site activities.

The hotline number will be displayed on all site hoardings and across other marketing material and is just part of the company’s newly launched “Miller Respect” initiative – an internal project designed to help Miller Homes to become a better “neighbour” on all of its developments nationwide.

Under the scheme, Miller Homes aims to keep construction disruption to a minimum and make sure builders are kept as safe as possible when working on site.

Starting this month October, every single Miller Homes site across the UK is now set to receive at least two visits from the company’s dedicated Health and Safety team each year.

Key people working on any of the company’s 100+ live developments across the country will be tested on their consideration of the environment, their thought for their neighbours and their site presentation and safety - as well as respect for their colleagues.

Divisional SH& E Manager of Miller Homes, Dave Hickman, said: “Earlier this year, we said very publically that we wanted to become a better neighbour and employer. We also said that we want to do more to help the planet. Miller Respect will help us to achieve all of this – and more.

“The scheme encourages all site based staff to think green: we judge them on pollution prevention measures, we look at what they are doing to protect the wildlife and trees onsite and we question what energy and water efficient methods they have in place and we look how hard they are trying to reduce waste.

“In addition, we question how well staff are working with their local communities, whether local schools have been contacted and whether surrounding residents feel they have been advised of our plans. We look at the controls in place for the prevention of ‘antisocial’ behaviour by our workforce and we double check the health and safety procedures employed on site.

“All of this will help us to meet our ultimate objective of becoming a better housebuilder – and not just in the eyes of our buyers, but anyone who comes into contact with us, for any reason.”
