Get to know your neighbours
It’s true what they say, everybody needs good neighbours, but do we really take the time to get to know who’s living next door? In an effort to build safer communities, Countryside Properties has launched a campaign to encourage its residents across the North to spend a few minutes getting to know their neighbours.According to Government statistics, only 27% of people speak to their neighbours every day and only 48% of people actually know one or more person living on their street.
But getting to know your neighbour could be the best thing you ever do, as figures show that friendly communities are often the safest to live in.
National crime figures show that homes in close knit communities are up to 10 times less likely to get burgled than in other areas.
As part of its ‘everybody needs good neighbours’ campaign, Countryside Properties, is sending all of its residents two teabags along with a letter asking them to start 2008 on a positive note by inviting their neighbours round for a chat.
Taking a lead from our Aussie counterparts, who know all too well the importance of a strong community spirit and dependable neighbours, Countryside hopes that people will take just a few minutes on National Australia Day (Saturday 26 January) to get to know their neighbours.
Martin Leggett, Countryside Properties’ Regional Sales Director, said: “Today’s hectic way of life means that we’re all pressed for time but in reality all it takes to get to know your neighbour is a cuppa. That’s why we’re asking our residents to take five minutes on National Australia Day to do as the Aussies do and help build community ties. Whether you would like someone to keep an eye on your house whilst you’re on holiday or know a neighbour living alone who would appreciate a friendly face saying hello – you could be making a valuable friend for life.”
Residents are also invited to surround themselves with even more friends by taking advantage of Countryside Properties’ recommend a friend scheme.
If a friend or relative buys a home on any Countryside site, both resident and the purchaser will receive £250 as a thank you - and that’s when good friends become good neighbours!
