Building a better future by design

Run by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, [CABE] the summer school is an exciting opportunity for even those designers already recognised for their excellence. John Barnes, Miller Homes North West Regional Technical Director, explained why:
“We know that our most important asset is our people. Because they design and build the homes we sell and provide the customer care that helps us achieve our high levels of customer satisfaction. So we have some of the highest standards in the industry for investing in our team and in their training. Career development is fundamental to our approach and its success is borne out in the low staff turnover we achieve.
“But more than that, there is no more important area of training for Miller Homes’ team than the design of new homes and the communities they create. We have chosen the CABE school because their philosophy of celebrating and promoting only the best in modern design matches ours. They do not compromise and neither do we in providing the best homes, built around our customers’ needs.
“We currently hold two “Housebuilder of the Year” titles† – and you only get to be that good if you constantly invest in the standard and training of your team.”
Chris Williamson, who will be going to the summer school, explains: “Design is all about designing for people and the way we actually live. So that our kids can go out safely, so we can walk and not be scared of cars whizzing by, so that the home we live in is part of sustainable living. Designing all aspects of a new community is a great challenge, but a great thrill and working with other leaders in the field at this summer school will be inspirational.”
