Buy new for an economical life

20th May 2008 Print
With energy costs going through the roof and little let-up on mortgage rates, house-hunters should be looking at every possible way to cut bills. According to Kevin Murthwaite, Sales and Marketing Director at McDermott Homes – a leading North West property developer, buying new could be the answer.

“Most homebuyers are simply unaware of how energy efficient new homes are. Heating systems and insulation alone makes them four times more energy efficient than older properties, significantly cutting fuel costs,” says Kevin.

“We find that many new homeowners are often surprised when they move in at how low their bills are. Water usage is also kept to a minimum because of water efficient fittings.”

A survey commissioned by British Gas revealed that for every £3 spent on fuel, £1 is wasted through lack of effective insulation.

The Home Builders Federation (HBF) also points out that a new property emits far less carbon dioxide, making buying new the environmentally friendly option.

“Because of the insulation, new homes are also much cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter – and at this time of year I know many people suffer with older houses trying to keep them cool,” continues Kevin.

“Other benefits of buying new include sound insulation, which protects home owners against the nuisance of noisy neighbours. All new properties are now being built to standards well above the minimum government level.”

McDermott Homes currently has six developments in the North West in Bacup, Keighley, Earby, Bolton, Blackburn and Rossendale.

The developer is currently offering a number of excellent deals for buyers, including a ‘Sale Or Return’ offer on selected properties where people can rent before they decide to purchase, as well as a 105% part exchange deal. Other incentives include massive discounts and free carpets on selected plots. More information is available by visiting Mcdermotthomes.co.uk.
