Persimmon creates the perfect guest bedroom

Persimmon creates the perfect guest bedroom Having friends and family over to stay can be a daunting event to prepare for - will they be comfortable? Do you provide towels? And is how are you going to entertain them while they're with you? With this in mind, experts at Persimmon Homes have created a number of handy pointers to help create the perfect guest bedroom.

"We all like to be made to feel welcome if we're staying at a friend's house and it's always nice to return this favour, which is why we've put together a simple checklist of tips to help those with guest bedrooms make the most out of them," comments Jon Gibbs, sales director for Persimmon Homes Anglia.

* Guest bedrooms are often used for lots of different purposes including a home office, and storage area as well as a bedroom. Before your guests arrive, try to de-clutter the room to ensure guests feel welcome
* If you haven't yet bought a bed for your spare room, it might be worth considering one that can be easily transformed into two singles, which allows you to easily accommodate couples, friends and children
* Whether you use a duvet or sheets and a blanket, perhaps incorporate a sumptuous bed spread for decorative appeal
* Always provide a bedside lamp so your guests aren't tripping over items while getting into bed at night. It might also be worth giving them some water, a few magazines and a clock if possible
* Offer your guests at least one towel each and pop them on the end of the bed before they arrive so that there's no confusion about whether they need to use their own
* If you're able to give your visitors wardrobe space and spare hangers, this would be very useful, if not a section in a chest of drawers would suffice
* If your guests haven't been to the area before and are thinking of doing some exploring, perhaps find a couple of tourist guides or ‘things to do' leaflets and leave them in the room so that they aren't entirely reliant on you for entertainment

Jon concludes: "A good guest bedroom isn't just about a beautiful interior, but also how welcome and comfortable your visitors feel. I hope that these straightforward ideas offer some help to those who are hosting guests some time soon."
