Brave Alan jumps 13,000 feet to raise money for charity Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's David Wilson East Midlands' Alan Hodges skydiving from 13,000 feet to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. Alan, a Customer Service Executive at the company's head office in Bardon Hill, regularly participates in sporting events for charity, but wanted to do something a bit more daring this time around so decided that leaping 13,000 feet from a moving plane would prove to be just the challenge.

He says "I've taken part in a lot of charity runs in the past including the Loughborough marathon, but this time I wanted to do something a bit different so I came up with the idea of doing a skydive.

"At first my family and friends thought I was crazy but because I was doing it for such a worthwhile cause, they soon came around to the idea."

Alan, 49, decided to jump on behalf of Breast Cancer Care after finding out that both his sister-in-law and wife's step-mother had been diagnosed with the disease.

He continues "Cancer is such a devastating disease which affects thousands of people all over the world. Thankfully, both my sister-in-law and wife's step mum are in remission, but it's been an incredibly difficult time for all the family. We've lost friends to cancer in the past, so I'm proud to have completed the jump and helped raise money for such a worthwhile charity."

Alan has so far raised £2900, but the money is still rolling in. He continues "All my friends and family have been incredibly supportive and I'm extremely pleased with the amount I've raised. My theory in life is if you can do something to help people, then why not?"

Travelling through the air at 131mph definitely hasn't put Alan off jumping again, he concludes "I was feeling apprehensive before the jump, especially as we began the ascent, but as soon as we jumped out of the plane the adrenaline kicked in and it felt amazing. It was an incredible experience and I'm proud to be able to say that I've done it, and who knows, if the opportunity arises I may well do one again in the future."

Philip Lacey, Sales Director for David Wilson says "We're extremely proud of Alan for carrying out this skydive on behalf of such a worthwhile cause. He's well known throughout the office for his charity events and he's already planning his next one which I'm sure will prove to be just as successful as this."
