Avoid flatmate nightmares with Persimmon People in the Southern regions of England are the most anxious over sharing their home with a flatmate new research has shown*. West Sussex came out as one of the top areas where people were particularly concerned over the prospect of flat sharing. Smokers and pet owners were among the reasons highlighted to avoid living with someone.

For house hunters in the South East area, Persimmon Homes has a range of incentives designed to ensure you'll never have to put up with a flat share nightmare again.

If sharing a house or apartment with someone you hardly know isn't exactly up your street, then there are a number of affordable options available at Persimmon developments throughout Kent, Medway, West Sussex and Surrey.

For first time buyers, key workers and those struggling to obtain a mortgage, Persimmon is promoting its highly acclaimed 85 per cent or 75 per cent Shared Equity scheme on its houses and apartments respectively. Designed with first time buyers in mind, Persimmon's Helping Hand incentive is a lifeline for anyone who wants to buy a home but worries they can't afford a deposit.

Helping Hand allows purchasers to pay for 75 per cent of their property whilst Persimmon makes up the remaining 25 per cent, enabling buyers to own 100 per cent of their property**. Purchasers then have up to ten years to pay back the remaining 25 per cent of the property price, interest free.

In addition to the shared equity scheme Persimmon are also offering stamp duty paid and five percent deposit paid on selected plots throughout the South East region.

Jason Stokes, sales director for Persimmon Homes South East, comments: "Although many people are looking to buy on their own they often think they cannot afford it and feel that they have no option but to flat share. Our aim is to help people buy a home with realistic and achievable financial options and the shared equity scheme is a great way for them to do this.

"It makes a real difference to purchasers as it allows them to take out a mortgage which they feel comfortable with to pay for the initial 75 per cent and hold off paying for the remaining 25 per cent for a few years until they feel more financially secure."
