Tops tips to achieving show home style

Whilst it’s easy to dream about fabrics, themes and colours, recreating them takes great skill and time, not to mention cost. So where do you start if you’ve not got a footballers budget to splurge on the latest trends?
Pauline Fletcher, regional sales and marketing director for Bryant Homes in the Southern Counties, said: “It’s very easy to get carried away whilst you’re flicking through celeb magazines; imagining what your dream home would look like. But in reality recreating the looks you see involves highly skilled interior designers and a budget that stretches into the tens of thousands.
“What’s great about buying a new home is that you start with a blank canvas and a property you can really make your mark on. This is why when creating our show homes we try to design striking looks that can be copied for a fraction of the price – meaning achieving a similar look in your own home is possible.”
Bryant Homes has come up with a list of style tips and ideas based on the show homes at its development’s across the Southern Counties, to help buyers make the most of their home.
Theme – try and decide on a theme as this will help bring a consistent approach to the whole of your home. Think about the atmosphere you want to create – are you looking for warm and homely or one that screams class and sophistication?
Feature walls – add depth and dimension to individual rooms. If you want to go bold make sure you keep furniture and accessories neutral. Gather inspiration from expensive wallpaper you see in magazines and show homes then search for similar copies on the high street.
Accessories – no home is complete without them. From lamps and statues through to ornate vases and embellished cushions, the clever use of accessories can really bring a home to life. Remember not to go over the top, the mantra ‘less is more’ can often be applied to accessorising a room.
Find a key piece – and use this as the focal point in the room. It may be a unique piece of furniture, a beautiful lamp or a bold picture. When out shopping always be on the hunt for bargains; you’ll be surprised how many fantastic discounted pieces you can pick up from shops such as TK Maxx, department stores and supermarkets. If you prefer shopping from home then search for hidden treasures at online auctions sites like Ebay.
Don’t be afraid – to mix things up and try something out of your comfort zone. You don’t have to keep everything matching – different patterns, colours and textures can often look great together and help to avoid a ‘staged’ look.
Listen to advice – speak to friends and families who have homes you admire about how they achieved the look they did. Read interior design articles in magazines and get ideas from show homes at new developments.
Pauline adds: “All of our show homes are different and striking in their own way; anyone looking for some creative inspiration for their new home should definitely visit our developments and take a look around.”
Bryant Homes currently has a selection of two, three, four and five bedroom homes for sale at developments across the Southern Counties.
