Barratt sponsors manager in 3 Peaks Challenge

Barratt South Wales is sponsoring Rhodri Stephens, the housebuilder’s health and safety manager, to take part in the Three Peaks Challenge on 13th June 2009, to raise money for Ty Hafan, The Children’s Hospice in Wales.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in the North, Mid and South of Wales, totalling 20.35miles, in under fifteen hours, reaching 9,397 ft above sea level. Rhodri and fellow climbers Marcus Francis, Ian Edwards and Geraint Thomas, must climb Mount Snowdon (3,560 ft), Cadair Idris (2,930ft) and Pen y Fan (2,907ft). The team’s driver, Howell Philipin, will get them to each destination on time.

The Ty Hafan Hospice, located in Sully, provides respite, palliative and end of life care to children in Wales who suffer from life limiting conditions and who are not expected to reach the age of 19. The hospice provides love, care and support for the children and their families absolutely free of charge. Barratt is contributing £1000 sponsorship towards Rhodri’s fundraising efforts. It costs £2.5 million a year to run the hospice; 17 per cent of which is provided by the Government, with the remainder raised through the generosity of donors and supporters.

James Groombridge, managing director of Barratt South Wales, says: “Ty Hafan really makes a difference to so many people’s lives and they need all the support they can get. It is a great privilege to have a member of staff going to such lengths to help the charity and we are pleased to back his superb efforts. We wish Rhodri and his team good luck in their challenge.”

Rhodri and his team will set off on their climb at 4am and are estimated to arrive at the summit of Mount Snowdon around 6am. They are hoping to reach the summit of Cadair Idris at around 12.30pm and finally arrive at the summit of Pen-Y-Fan at 5.30pm, completing the climb by 7.30pm.
