Barratt sweeps the board at new homes awards Unique Barratt developments in London - from a £6.75 million home to a converted Art Deco factory - have taken top honours at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2009.

Barratt Homes won three of the ten categories outright and took Highly Commended and Special Commendation accolades in a further three.

Dominating the Best Conversion category, Barratt was named winner for Bloomsbury Terrace in WC1 and ‘Highly Commended’ for Great West Quarter in Brentford. ‘The Pushkin’ at Barratt’s prestigious Allingham Court development in Hampstead also won the Best Luxury Home category.

Awards were given out during a glittering ceremony in The Dorchester Hotel on Friday 15th May, hosted by actor and comedian Rob Brydon.

Barratt London managing director Alastair Baird says: “We are thrilled to have been awarded these highly prestigious awards which are particularly important as they are judged by the public. The calibre of entrants was extremely high and it is a real honour to have won and been commended for so many awards.”

Bloomsbury Terrace, a sell-out development in Huntley Street, London WC1, was a derelict row of Edwardian mansion blocks, formerly used as nurses' quarters but had been empty and derelict for ten years.

The glorious six-storey buildings, largely built in yellow London stock bricks, have been transformed into a stylish, convenient and unique development of 52 two-bedroom apartments and one, one-bedroom apartment suitable for 21st Century living in Europe’s most vibrant capital city.

The quality of the buildings and apartments at Bloomsbury Terrace - as well as the fact that it is in one of Europe’s finest postcodes – has largely protected the development from the housing downturn caused by the gloomy economic climate.

Striking and supremely elegant, Grade II listed Wallis House forms the iconic Art Deco centrepiece of Great West Quarter – a landmark 12-acre regeneration scheme in Brentford. Built as a grandiose factory in the 1930s, its restoration and conversion into 110 light and airy apartments brings back glamour to a stretch of road that, in its Art Deco industrial heyday, was known as ‘The Golden Mile’.

The transformation of Wallis House plays to all the strengths of the original building. Surviving period features have been highlighted, while a dramatic new double height entrance foyer captures the true essence of the long gone Art Deco original. Apartments blend classic style with cutting-edge practicality and the development benefits from a well-equipped gym, 24-hour concierge service, secluded communal courtyard gardens and an underground car park at the rear.

Only one studio apartment in Wallis House remains for sale, priced at £190,000. Recently launched at Great West Quarter are Beecham House and Firestone House which provide the development’s first new homes. Prices range from £199,000 for studio apartments, from £250,000 for one bedroom apartments and from £299,000 for two bedroom apartments. Contact the marketing suite at Great West Quarter off Great West Road, Brentford, open daily from 10am to 6pm, or visit barratthomes.co.uk or gwq.uk.com.

It is set in one-and-a-half acres of exquisitely landscaped gardens, linked by ribbons of water.
