Miller Homes trio triumph with pride

Site managers at Miller Homes East Midlands are celebrating after scooping awards for demonstrating outstanding levels of Pride in the Job.

Senior site managers Garry Bowler and Andrew Jackson, together with site manager Vinnie Morris have all been chosen for a coveted Pride in the Job accolade from the National House-Building Council (NHBC).

The awards are run as part of its campaign to reward the best site managers in the UK, and are only awarded after a year of judging, including spot checks on the day-to day running of the sites and each site manager being assessed across 38 areas of site management.

They are tested on technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and the quality controls they have in place at their sites.

Malcolm Ceney, production director at Miller Homes East Midlands, commented: “These are fantastic awards for the three site managers, particularly this year as the housing market has certainly been hit by the economic situation and more work has been asked of them.

“We are very proud of them, because they help to build quality homes that new home buyers want to live in. Their standards are high and all our site managers strive to achieve the best.”

Garry Bowler, in charge at the Laurel Wolds development in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, won a similar award in 2007 but this is the first Pride in the Job award for Andrew Jackson, who manages the Cavendish Wharf site in Shardlow, Derbyshire.

Vinnie Morris, who is overseeing the Falcon Heath development near Lincoln, has now won three Pride in the Job awards. He is also a past holder of a Pride in the Job Seal of Excellence Award.

All three will now go forward to a regional competition, where they could be in line for a Seal of Excellence 2009 or regional award.

Richard Hartshorn, regional director of the NHBC, commented: “NHBC are delighted to recognise the achievements of Gary, Andy and Vinnie in this year’s Pride in the Job awards.

“Pride in the Job is a competition to help raise standards in the quality of new homes for the benefit of home buyers. Winning a quality award has always been difficult, but this year has seen new challenges for site managers, often with stop/start build programmes and a lack of continuity of trades and contractors on site, making the management of the site more difficult.

“I wish all three the best of luck in the next stage of the competition, when we will announce our Seal of Excellence & Regional winners.”
