Summerville Nursing Centre celebrates new look

BUPA's promise to improve standards in the care home sector is exemplified in its £250,000 refurbishment of Summerville Nursing Centre, Warrington, Cheshire.

The Vice Lord Lieutenant for, Cheshire Viscount Ashbrook attended an important event to mark the official re-opening of the home on Friday 12 October. Everyone was welcome to join the celebration, which included an afternoon of entertainment for all the residents and guests to enjoy.

Originally a nineteenth century private house, Summerville has been converted to create a well-equipped home that provides care for elderly residents and for the young physically disabled.

The £250,000 investment by BUPA has allowed for a total refurbishment of all the bedrooms, the lounge and reception. Residents can also now enjoy all of their favourite programmes on a new plasma TV.

A capital grant from Warrington Borough Council, as part of a wider government initiative, has enabled some additional improvements to be made, including a new shower room, a summerhouse and raised flower beds to enable residents to enjoy gardening without the burden of kneeling and bending.

Home manager Jan O'Hanlon said: "Summerville is a beautiful building with fabulous residents and staff and we are all very excited to have our refurbished home officially re-opened. A lot of care and attention has gone into ensuring that the money is spent wisely to ensure we meet the needs of our residents and their families."

Viscount Ashbrook said: "I am delighted to be involved in the celebration to help mark the re-opening of the home. Special thanks must go to the staff, who helped make the disruption bearable for the residents whilst all the works were carried out."

Summerville Nursing Centre can also provide professional healthcare services that include physiotherapy, speech therapy, chiropody and aromatherapy. It also offers a variety of interesting daily activities that include everything from quizzes and film showings to gardening afternoons and arts and crafts sessions.
