Helping hand for Crewe's key workers

And those officially classified as key workers now have the opportunity to become part of that community and purchase selected properties at 15% below market value.
Earlier this year, the annual Halifax Key Worker Housing Review revealed that five groups of public sector workers – nurses, police officers, paramedics, fire fighters and teachers - were unable to afford to buy a home in 70% of towns across Great Britain.
But Redrow is giving workers in these industries a chance to snap up a two-bedroom apartment at The Sidings from as little as £103,000.
Barbara Wright, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (North West) says: “Redrow is delighted to be able to offer a discounted price, aimed specifically at this group of essential workers who are struggling to get onto the property ladder across the UK.
“We are always keen to support the communities in which we build and key workers are often the backbone of the community.”
Provided the prospective buyers meet the relevant criteria – they will be able to purchase selected homes at a price that’s 15% below the open market value.
To meet the criteria applicants must be a teacher, health worker, police officer, prison officer, probation officer, social worker, occupational therapist or educational psychologist, be in full time employment, and have been in their current role for a minimum of six months, work within a 20 mile radius of The Sidings and not own another property.
The Sidings is a development of 215 properties situated within walking distance of Crewe town centre, which is currently undergoing a £200 million redevelopment programme.
While Crewe offers all of the amenities for day to day life, The Sidings is also convenient for Nantwich, Chester and the Potteries and the development is just a mile from Crewe railway station, which provides regular services to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and London – perfect for commuters.
Available homes at the development include the two-bedroom Avon, currently priced from £121,000, with a special discounted price for key workers of £103,000 on selected plots.
The Avon apartments offer contemporary living at its very best. The open plan kitchen and dining area is the perfect space for entertaining guests, and the Avon comes complete with stainless steel oven, hob and hood, and gas central heating. A parking space is also included in the price and some apartments benefit from Juliet balconies.
