Barratt’s Richard builds on a sound education

27th June 2007 Print
Former student Richard Flamson has learned how to build on the education he received at Coalville’s Stephenson College. As a Barratt site manager, he’s been the man responsible for knocking down the old college and building a stunning new housing development on the site.

Richard, 33, from Whitwick, went to the former Stephenson College, in 1989, to study building construction, after leaving Ashby Grammar School.

Now he’s the Barratt site manager in charge of the redevelopment of the seven acre college site and its transformation into the new Stephenson’s Place, with 155 new homes.

Richard said: “It’s very strange working on the site of the college where I learned my building skills – especially to see it being knocked down. I received an excellent education there and this has helped me to establish a career with the country’s leading housebuilder, Barratt. We are the leaders in urban regeneration and even though

we have knocked down my old college – we have built some very welcome modern housing in a prime location. We have kept the name alive by calling the new development Stephenson’s Place.”

The present Stephenson College is located on a new site on the other side of town and continues to provide a wide range of courses for local students.

Barratt’s East Midlands Sales Director, Steven Jackson said: “It seems very fitting that Richard has played a major role in the redevelopment of his old college. Like all Barratt site managers, he is extremely well qualified and the grounding he received at Stephenson College has held him in good stead – even though he did help to demolish it.”
