Planning granted for £30 million worth of new homes in Leeds

17th July 2007 Print
Leeds City Council has granted planning permission for two additional phases at St Gregory’s - Persimmon Homes’ development in Swarcliffe. Collectively, sales revenue for the two new phases will top the £30 million mark and will span more than 13 acres.

Phase L will be known as Mill Green and will comprise 36 apartments and starter homes whilst Phase C, which is yet to be named, will incorporate 214 properties including a mix of apartments, two and three bedroom starter homes and three storey townhouses.

Richard Smith, land director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire said the company has experienced great success in Swarcliffe and is sure they will emulate that once again with the launch of the new phases. He comments: “There is a shortage of quality, affordable new homes in this particular area of Leeds which this is why we are delighted to have been granted planning permission for 250 properties as they will go some way in addressing the current shortfall.

“Property prices in the centre of Leeds are at a premium and as a result, areas such as Swarcliffe perform well. New build opportunities in this area are relatively rare so when developments launch, homes aren’t available for long - this is true of our St Gregory’s development, the site launched just over one year ago and is now already completely sold out.”

Work to construct roads and sewers on Phase L is scheduled to commence in around three weeks. Road and sewer construction at Phase C is currently underway and foundation work will start in around five weeks in readiness for the first release of homes towards the end of the year. Prices on both phases are to be announced.
