Wellington is top dog at Merton Primary School Wellington the dog was the centre of attention at this year's Merton Primary School Fayre with pupils eager to win the life size toy donated by David Wilson East Midlands which was being raffled off as part of the festivities.

The school, on Cherry Drive in Syston, held its annual fete on 26th November and as part of the celebrations guests were treated to a selection of festive songs by the orchestra, invited to take part in Christmas games as well as having a selection of goods on offer to buy. The raffle was the culmination of the day's events.

The generous housebuilder donated the star prize- Wellington, a FurReal toy, which is being hailed as one of the top ten Christmas gifts of 2008. The life size toy is designed to act and respond just like a real puppy and was selected as a prize due to its similarity to the dog in the company's logo. The prize has been named Wellington after the original golden retriever that the logo is based on.

Philip Lacey, Sales Director for David Wilson says "One of our developments, The Chestnuts, is just a few minutes walk from Merton Primary in Syston, so when we found out the school was looking for donations for its Christmas fete we decided the dog would be the perfect contribution.

"David Wilson is committed to supporting its local communities and as The Chestnuts is primarily a family orientated development, what better local organisation to back? We're thrilled that Wellington proved such a hit with the children and that we were able to contribute to such a fantastic and worthwhile event."

Miss Thomson, Headmistress at Merton Primary says "The Christmas fayre was a great success, raising over £1400 for the school. We are very grateful to the parents who gave so much of their time to organise and run this event. Thanks too to David Wilson who provided us with such a splendid raffle prize."

Wellington was won by a grandmother of one of the schoolchildren and is now being looked after by its new owners at a home in Syston.

The Chestnuts is situated on Barkby Road and offers a selection of three-, four- and five- bedroom homes in a pleasant, family friendly environment.

Prices at The Chestnuts start from £189,995 for a three- bedroom townhouse.
