A place to call home

The local housebuilder commissioned the survey to find out exactly what residents think of the two settlements and a total of 324 locals returned the questionnaires which were sent out to selected households by post in November.
As a goodwill gesture, everyone who returned a questionnaire was entered into a free prize draw to win a £500 shopping spree at the local Co-op and Barwell resident Lyndsey O'Grady was the lucky winner drawn at random.
Graham Sharp from Sharp Focus says "We were very pleased that over 300 people decided to complete the questionnaire for us. This provides us with a statistically reliable basis from which we can advise David Wilson Homes on what the residents of Barwell and Earl Shilton really think about the places they live."
There was a fair split between respondents from both Earl Shilton and Barwell and one of the main conclusions was that the amenities on offer and the location are the biggest draws to the area.
Almost 90 per cent of respondents rated the medical services as good and over 70 per cent have the same view of the public transport, whilst over 40 per cent of people think that its location to countryside and other towns are it's most appealing factors.
Over 30 per cent of respondents reported to have lived in the area for over 30 years which indicates that those living in the area are happy to stay long-term.
Philip Lacey, Sales Director for David Wilson says "We wanted to commission an independent survey of the area to determine resident's views of Earl Shilton and Barwell and thanks to the fantastic response rate we have achieved exactly what we set out to do.
"We now have a greater understanding of the local area and we can plan to utilise this information to look into future community projects that we can get involved with.
"With four David Wilson developments on offer throughout Earl Shilton and Barwell, the fact that the residents rate it as a good place to live is most definitely a positive finding for us as a company."
