David Wilson Homes sponsors Sensory Garden Visitors to Melton Country Park will soon be able to experience the quiet and shelter of a brand new Sensory Garden, thanks to sponsorship from David Wilson East Midlands.

The housebuilder has donated £1,000 to the re-design of the green space, which is intended to appeal to and captivate the five senses – smell, sight, touch, hearing and taste. Melton Country Park is adjacent to David Wilson’s Meadow’s Edge development and is used frequently by the residents, so the revamped Sensory Garden will be a welcome addition.

Situated in a relaxed and peaceful setting, the existing layout of the garden is being preserved. It features two archways leading into the area, a stone circle, a picnic bench and three trees.

The extra funding from David Wilson will help to fund the raising of the central area, many new plants throughout the garden as well as a tree seat, a rack of hollow pipes, a wind chime and a spiral – a stone marker may even be placed in the area with etching and wording in Braille.

Volunteers from Melton in Bloom and Friends of Melton Country Park have recently started work on the new garden which is expected to be ongoing until the autumn final planting.

Marie Walters, designer of the Sensory Garden, said, “This space will be a beautiful retreat which is open for anyone to find somewhere quiet where they can think, relax and watch the world go by within nature.

“It will appeal to all of the five senses. We are making sure there is as much visual leaf and flower variety as possible all year round, some plants being clipped into geometric shapes to please the sight. Scented shrubs and bulbs, plus roses, honeysuckle, jasmine and aromatic foliage will be a delight to smell.

“People can touch and feel all the leaf textures on offer and we are making sure there are some herbs which release scent when touched as well.

“Last but not least, our Sensory Garden at Melton Country Park will play host to the sounds of nature, from buzzing bees to singing birds, as well as the rustling of plants, wind chimes and running waters from the nearby stream.”

Philip Lacey, Sales Director at David Wilson East Midlands, said, “We had no hesitation in donating £1,000 to this fantastic project at Melton Country Park, which backs onto our Meadow’s Edge development. We are dedicated to getting involved with the local communities in which our developments exist and this sponsorship forms part of our promise and commitment.

“The park is already enjoyed by many of our residents and the Sensory Garden will be a great addition to what is already a beautiful place to spend time in. We hope people will find it a place they can relax in and enjoy, especially as the summer months approach.”

David Wilson’s nearby Meadow’s Edge development is situated on Doctor’s Lane in Melton Mowbray and offers a selection of one-, two- and three-bedroom houses priced from £99,950.
