Children bury their hopes for future generations

The Leicestershire-based housebuilder invited Year Four pupils to fill the time capsule with items of contemporary life and after much deliberation, the children opted to include their hopes for the future, newspaper and magazine cuttings, a school bookmark, a mug of the Queen’s Jubilee as well as drawings of the development that they had sketched during a previous visit.
53 pupils along with their teachers and helpers came down on the day to help Assistant Site Manager, Phil Symonds, bury the sealed time capsule which is not due to be opened until the year 2059.
Sharon Evans, Year Four teacher comments “The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the burial of the time capsule but not just on the day, beforehand deciding what to include- we had lots of good ideas and it was difficult to narrow it down to be representative of contemporary life.
“I’d like to thank David Wilson for asking us to be a part of this project which has been a great way of getting the children out and about and learning about their local community.”
Philip Lacey, Sales Director at David Wilson comments “Kibworth Meadows is our flagship development so we thought it would be fitting to bury a time capsule so that future residents can see what life was like when their homes were first built.
“As a company, we like to getting involved with local organisations and the school was the ideal candidate as it is just a few minutes walk away and a number of the residents’ children go to school there.
“This has been a really exciting project and hopefully, in 50 years time, some of the children will still be living in the area so they can come back and see how life has really changed and if any of their hopes have come true.”
Situated on Wistow Road, Kibworth Meadows comprises a wide selection of one-, two-, three-, four- and five- bedroom homes in a sought after location on the edge of Kibworth.
The development is within walking distance of the village and benefits from the wide range of local amenities including shops, schools, public houses and restaurants.
The A6 links the area to Leicester in the north and Market Harborough in the south.
Prices at the development start from £89,995.
