Birstall United cook up a storm thanks to David Wilson Homes

Players from Birstall United Football Club are quite literally cooking up a storm thanks to a brand new kitchen that was donated to the team by local housebuilder, David Wilson East Midlands.

The club, which is located on Meadow Lane, has recently re-located to a new clubhouse but the inside, and in particular the kitchen, was run down and in desperate need of refurbishment. So when David Wilson, whose Humberstone Lodge development is close by, was approached to see if it could help out in any way, it didn’t hesitate in donating a brand new kitchen.

“To improve the long term prospects of the club, we made the decision to move to new, bigger premises.” Comments Kevin Glover, Chairman at Birstall United.

“We now have a longer lease that means we can apply for grants from the Football Foundation and National Lottery, which will benefit the club in the long term, should we receive them.

“But these new premises were extremely run down and in desperate need of refurbishment, so when David Wilson offered us a brand new kitchen, the gesture was greatly appreciated.”

The club regularly uses the kitchen to prepare hot snacks and drinks that they sell to spectators. It is an important feature of the club as they rely on this income to pay for various expenses.

Kevin adds “We make on average £150 a week from selling burgers, hot dogs, bacon butties and tea and coffee, which is a significant amount that goes straight back into the club and means that subscriptions and training fees are lower.

“The new kitchen is fantastic and the lads are really enjoying getting their hands dirty and using these new facilities on match days. I’d like to thank David Wilson for giving us the kitchen as it has significantly improved our new clubhouse.”
