Local girl scores a dream prize

Burton Albion fanatic Daisy McAuliffe felt like she’d won the World Cup last week when she was presented with a signed shirt from her beloved Brewers. Daisy, 17, was all smiles when she picked up her reward for entering top ten housebuilder, Miller Homes’ competition at Burton-on-Trent housing development, ‘Hopwood’.

Miller Homes and Burton Albion struck up a relationship in 2005 when the developer took over the land of the former Eton Park stadium to build a new residential scheme. The club kindly donated the signed away shirt for a Miller Homes prize draw at Hopwood, which is a stones throw from the new Pirelli Stadium.

Daisy who lives in Branston, South Burton is a huge BAFC supporter and only missed four matches at the Pirelli Stadium last season. She knows every player’s squad number and date of birth. The news of her win was a small reward for her bravery after undergoing an eye operation just days before collecting the shirt.

Daisy said: “I’m so happy to have won. It’s such lovely news after my operation. The best bit about it is that my favourite player, Shaun Harrad’s signature is on the front. I’m going to frame it for my wall.”

Daisy, who is currently studying a BTEC National Certificate in Care at Burton College, collected the award from the Hopwood development on Princess Way with mum Sally.

Hopwood contains a host of three and four bedroom townhouses with a variety of layouts to suit all tastes as well as 12 stylish and contemporary two bedroom apartments.
