Burton site manager scoops industry prize

Rob Hepwood (Miller Homes MD), Dean Markley, Peter Watton (NHBC Regional Director), Phil Morgan (Miller Homes Construction Director) Miller Homes’ site manager, Dean Markley, responsible for Burton on Trent development, ‘Hopwood’, has been named as one of the UK’s best house-building site managers by the official industry body, the NHBC (National House-Building Council).

He received a Quality Award under the organisation’s 2007 “Pride in the Job Campaign” – an annual competition to find site managers who are particularly committed to building quality homes for customers.

Tamworth man, Dean, who has been with Miller since the company took over Fairclough Homes two years ago, said: “I’m overwhelmed to have received this award. Hopwood has been a challenging project but also very enjoyable to work on. This just tops it all off.”

Candidates for the NHBC Awards are judged on their commitment to high standards in all areas of the construction process. Judges visit sites at key stages of construction, from when the foundations are laid to when the last home is complete.

Site managers need to prove that they have effective control of all areas of their site at all times. They also need to demonstrate their ability at dealing with any problems that might occur.

Two other Miller site managers in the West Midlands also picked up Pride in the Job awards. Lyndon Bennett, for Wolverhampton scheme, ‘Westfields’ and Chris Wilson, for ‘Littleton Green’ in Cannock were commended.

Managing director of Miller Homes (West Midlands), Rob Hepwood, said: “We are really proud of our award winners. They have been the driving force behind three of our most successful developments in the region – they deserve lots of credit. They are all excellent site managers and are a great asset to the Miller Homes team”.
