Barratt to redevelop Shobnall Street site in Burton-on-Trent
The former site of local pallet manufacturer, JB Kind, is to be redeveloped by award-winning housebuilder, Barratt, to create a brand new residential community comprising a mix of 146 homes. The project will see the site in Shobnall Street, Burton-on-Trent, totally transformed as part of a major urban regeneration project, which prioritises the redevelopment of sustainable, well-located, land that had a former use.
Shobnall Street has been home to JB Kind for over 100 years. The company is still one of the region’s biggest employers and will continue its successful business of manufacturing wooden pallets from new premises in the town.
Barratt’s planned development - to be known as Orton Place - will consist of 146 homes, including one and two-bedroom apartments and a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes – all built to Barratt’s high specification and exacting quality standards. The new development will also include a proportion of affordable accommodation to meet local housing needs.
The site is currently being prepared for demolition work ahead of the build programme. The sales centre is planned to open in September, when homes will be available to purchase off-plan.
David Child, sales director of Barratt West Midlands, said: “We recognise the great part this site has played in the history, growth and lives of the local community here, so we feel honoured to have this opportunity to take it into a new era and to play such an important role in the regeneration of Burton.
“Our plans for the site will undoubtedly add value to the neighbourhood and provide more housing choice for local buyers.”
Landscaping at Orton Place will create a significant amount of green space and new planting, which it currently lacks. Layouts and designs will also give careful consideration to the site’s designation as part of the National Forest.
