High and dry – thanks to Barratt’s flood planning

A remarkable picture taken on the flooded Derby Road in Chesterfield testifies to Barratt’s forward planning.

A contractor wades through foot-deep water in the main roadway – while in the background the new Barratt apartments at the newly-built, The Spires development remain high and dry.

Barratt’s East Midlands managing director, Kevin Broughton said: “This picture, taken at the height of the local floods, demonstrates more clearly than words how successful our designs are.

“After thorough consultations with groups like the Environment Agency and local authority – we ensure that our properties are built above what would be the high water mark in areas which may be prone to flooding. While the roadway is submerged – the new properties are quite safe.

“The extreme weather over the past week has been exceptional – but thanks to our preparation and planning, our properties have withstood everything the storms could do.”
