Developer warns kids over site dangers

21st July 2009 Print
As housebuilding activity rises again after the slowdown, David Wilson East Midlands is warning youngsters to stay away from construction sites during the school summer holidays.

While areas where building work is going on can look like exciting places for children to play, they also pose serious dangers says the housebuilder.

“Youngsters are often on the lookout for somewhere new and exciting to play, but construction sites are not adventure playgrounds,” said Darren Langton, Construction Director at David Wilson.

"As the school holidays are with us again, it is important to remind children and their parents about the potential dangers of building sites and the need to stay away from them.”

“We have active sites across the region, and have recently started work on two new developments. Our construction teams watch out for youngsters while they are working and we secure our sites when we finish for the day. But we also ask parents to make sure they know where their children are during the holiday time.”

David Wilson holds regular safety talks and site visits for schools close to where it is building, to highlight the hazards of playing on or near building sites.

“It’s important to get youngsters thinking about the dangers that exist and get the message across that they should stay away,” he added.

David Wilson is currently building at a number of developments throughout Derbyshire including:
