Barratt sponsors buyer’s 100 kilometre trek

Engineer Anthony Haynes and his actor friend Richard Sutton will be spending 10 days journeying across the vast dessert in November and hope to collect £3,000 for the charity which raises funds for servicemen and women who are wounded on duty.
The charity is close to Anthony’s heart as his two step brothers have both spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan with the RAF and Army. As the proud brother, he made the decision to give something back to those who have served on behalf of their country and came up with the idea of the Sahara trek.
Anthony is well on his way to achieving his £3,000 and his most recent donation comes from his housebuilder, who has sponsored him £250.
31 year old Anthony comments “I’m thrilled with Barratt’s donation, which now takes me past the half way point of the £3,000 I hope to raise. Friends and family have also been incredibly generous and I really hope I manage to hit my target.”
Anthony has been a Barratt homeowner since last December after buying a three- bedroom property in the style of a Somerby with his partner 29 year old Kelly Macgregor.
The couple had been living in a three- bedroom semi detached home in Tamworth but after being impressed with the countryside location and the helpfulness of Barratt’s staff at the development in Church Gresley, they part exchanged their old home for a brand new three- bedroom townhouse in the style of a Somerby.
Kelly, who works as an Events Coordinator, comments “We looked around a number of new homes developments but as soon as we walked into the Barratt sales office we had a good feeling about it. Anna the sales advisor was incredibly helpful and showed us around the stunning showhomes.
“We fell in love with the Somerby there and then and didn’t hesitate in reserving the plot.”
The Somerby is a spacious and modern property offering living space spread generously over three floors.
Kelly adds “We loved this style and compared to our old traditional home, this house felt much more modern and stylish. I really like townhouses and in particular having the living room on the first floor, plus the fact that it’s got a garage, something that we have never had, as well as an en-suite, really cemented our decision to go for this style.”
The countryside location of The Glade is perfect for the couple too as it means they can walk their black Labrador, Lazer, without having to travel in the car first. Plus, Anthony is planning on spending a few weekends camping in the nearby Derbyshire dales in preparation for his big trek.
Kelly concludes “We’ve really settled into our new home and even now, seven months after moving in, Barratt are still being incredibly helpful and supportive. We’re really happy with our purchase and the customer care we have received and we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Barratt or The Glade to any of our family or friends.”
James Poynor, Sales Director at Barratt North Midlands comments “Help for Heroes is a fantastic cause and it’s great to see guys like Anthony and Richard are willing to go that extra mile in order to help raise funds and we wish them both the very best of luck for November.”
“British service men and women are amongst the best in the world and whatever we can do to help, then we should. Our parent company, Barratt Developments, has recently donated £10,000 to the actual Help for Heroes charity and we also offer a special armed forces discount which sees anyone who served in Afghanistan or Iraq get a 2 per cent discount when they buy at any of the our developments across the country.”
