Make mine a bungalow

30th July 2007 Print
The sought-after ‘Victoria’ bungalows at Heather Lea Claimed to make the happiest home, the humble bungalow is one of the UK’s most sought-after house designs. Not least at Heather Lea, in Lanark, where a selection of three-bedroom bungalows have been snapped up, leaving just one ‘Victoria’ single storey home among the somewhat taller properties available.

Diana Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (Scotland) says: “There’s no doubt the bungalows are hugely sought after and can demand a premium price. This will only increase as developers are forced to maximise the land available for new homes and the ‘land hungry’ bungalow is no longer a viable option.

“For the moment though we’ve enjoyed success with our bungalows at Heather Lea, to the point that we just have this one last Victoria design remaining. And whoever buys it can look forward to a happy life according to research carried out by the Social Issues Research Centre on behalf of Halifax Insurance. They found that the bungalow came top in a survey that looked at a number of factors, including safety, space, privacy and sense of security.”

The three-bedroom Victoria bungalow at Heather Lea is priced at £213,995 and is ready to move into with fitted carpets and landscaped gardens included.

It includes an integral single garage and the master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and fitted wardrobes. There’s a handy utility room adjoining the fitted kitchen and a separate dining room as well as the 15’8” by 13’3” lounge at the front of the house.

Diana adds: “There’s a common misconception that bungalows are only purchased by the retirement sector but, whilst they are certainly a great choice for mature buyers who want everything on one level, bungalows also make wonderful family homes and can suit first time buyers too. We’ve certainly sold to a cross section of people at Heather Lea.”

Redrow’s popular development also features a wide selection of three, four and five-bedroom houses, including some fabulously spacious designs with their accommodation arranged over three floors. Among them is the Ribble, a four-bedroom property whose roof space has been cleverly converted to create a sumptuous master bedroom with en-suite shower room.

Current prices are from £205,000 for a four-bedroom detached Otter, up to £305,000 for a five-bedroom Wharfe, while a four-bedroom detached Ribble is available from £208,995.

Whether purchasers at Heather Lea choose to live their life over one, two or three floors, they’ll all benefit from a superb location in the beautiful lower Clyde Valley. The historic market town of Lanark is 27 miles from Glasgow and 34 miles from Edinburgh. The M74, M73 and M8 offer convenient commuting and there is a regular train service from the town centre station to both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Heather Lea is on the edge of the town, overlooking beautiful open countryside, and just a leisurely stroll from the Falls of Clyde and Lanark Loch beauty spots.
