George Wimpey wants the shirt off your back

16th June 2008 Print
To mark the launch of George Wimpey's two new showhomes at Victoria Gardens in Airdrie, the company is inviting Airdrie FC supporters and local families to bring their old replica Airdrie FC shirts to its Victoria Gardens development, off Motherwell Street in Airdrie on Sunday 22 June, 2008 between 12 noon and 4pm.

In return they'll make a donation per shirt for the first 100 they receive to raise funds for local children's charity - Hope (for autism in North Lanarkshire). In addition, all the strips that are received at this event will be sent to charities who take these unwanted strips to communities in Africa.

With a new strip for the club due to launch during the summer we're confident there will be plenty of strips that Airdrie fans will be keen to put to good use to benefit both a local charity and those in Africa too.

The shirt amnesty is part of an afternoon packed full of family entertainment that will include children's workshops where kids can learn circus skill and balloon modeling, as well as get creative with some arts and crafts. There's also face-painting, free popcorn and candy-floss as well as a ‘Beat the Goalie' competition with an Airdrie FC goalie to keep everyone amused. So it's a great fun day for the family and a great opportunity to check out George Wimpey's latest showhomes that have just been revealed.

Michelle Logie, sales and marketing director for George Wimpey West Scotland, comments: "Our Victoria Gardens development in Airdrie is attracting new families into the area. The shirt amnesty scheme with Airdrie FC is just our way of helping local people to show their support for their local team, whilst helping both a local children's charity and those communities in Africa that so desperately need our help.

"Our family fun-day is packed full of fun for everyone and we're looking forward to welcoming some new faces to look round our new showhomes too."

Nicola Dickson is sales and marekting manager for Airdrie FC: "This is a great way for both George Wimpey and the club to work together to create a fun-day that's also giving something back to both our own community and those abroad. We're looking forward to welcoming many Airdrie FC fans on the day, and we'll even offer them £2.00 discount off our new strip."

The fun starts from 12 noon until 4pm on Sunday 22 June, 2008 at George Wimpey's Victoria Gardens, just off Motherwell Street in Airdrie. Don't forget your unwanted shirts, and come along and join in the fun!
