All the right moves

All the right moves George Wimpey’s Hollybrae development in Kirkcaldy is certainly proving to be the right move for Liz Campbell, business development executive for property marketing company Rightmove.co.uk.

Although she’d never considered moving to a new-build home, and was set on extending her existing property, Liz has been surprised just how right her decision was to make the move to this family-friendly development in the Chapel area of Kirkcaldy.

The family had lived in a three bedroom detached bungalow in Kirkcaldy for ten years, but Liz’s new role with Rightmove.co.uk meant that she needed office-space at home so they initially planned to extend their property as Liz explains:

“We were going to develop our bungalow, and had popped along to Hollybrae to check out ideas of floor-layouts to get an idea of what we might be able to achieve, and establish whether extending our existing property would be a good investment.

“However, Jackie our sales executive, encouraged me to have a look around the four bedroom detached Tay house as she was convinced that this house would offer us everything we hoped to achieve with our extension and we wouldn’t need to do all the work. She was right – I took one look round, fell in the love with the house and the next day the plans for the new extension were binned.

“The Tay is really the perfect house for a family. We have two children – Cameron (aged 10) and Emma (aged 4), and we lead a busy and active life and this house really stands up to our family’s demands.

“Many of our extended family live down South, but our house has four really well-proportioned bedrooms, so we’ve always got plenty of space for visiting relatives. The handy ‘jack/jill’ en-suite is a great feature and means everyone has easy access to showering facilities to make our mornings stress-free. The children love having their own en-suite and have endless fun in the race to be first to the shower in the morning!

“The breakfasting kitchen is a great space for us to catch up in the morning – because there’s space for informal dining, this room tends to be the ‘hub’ of our house. We find ourselves enjoying more family time here because we don’t have to use the more formal dining room for everyday teas or snacks.

“I also love having a separate dining room and living room – you can have one large space when the double doors are open, or the convenience of two separate rooms depending on what everyone is up to.”

There are many benefits of buying a new-build house that aren’t always too obvious as Liz continues: “I’ve always lived in a second-hand, older property so there have been a number of pleasant surprises since we moved in. One of the biggest benefits that I’ve noticed is that our house is so easy to heat and keep comfortable – we’re always turning our heating down or off so our bills are really cost-effective.

“We also saved on stress and hassle because our flooring, tiling, curtains, blinds and fire-place were all fitted for our move-in day. We literally arrived with our furniture, unpacked and it felt like home even on the first night!

“And I loved the fact that everything is brand-new and very clean – it’s like a blank canvas that we’ve added our family touches too.”

The Campbell family also took advantage of George Wimpey’s Easymover scheme, and currently customers visiting our Hollybrae development can benefit from the scheme when reserving before 30 March, 2008. This scheme means that George Wimpey will sell your property for you and pay all the costs associated with your move.*

Easymover is a great way to help customers get on the move as Karen Armstrong, sales and marketing director for George Wimpey East Scotland explains: “Easymover is a straight-forward, straight-talking property transaction which gives you the peace of mind, security, and convenience that our agents are working on your behalf. It also gives you access to independent financial advice to ensure you choose the best mortgage package for you.

“Easymover also offers an excellent package of benefits designed to get our customers on the move with the minimum of financial cost. We’ll pay advertising costs to the value of £500; legal fees to the value of £500, all set-up costs and estate agency fees, and arrange two independent valuations on your property.

“You can’t lose in the Easymover scheme - if we find a buyer you’re on easy street and on the way to moving into your new George Wimpey home. But if no buyer is found for your property – it won’t have cost you a penny!”

George Wimpey’s Hollybrae development, at Sir Thomas Elder Way in Kirkcaldy currently offers a range of three, four and five bedroom detached homes and prices start from £186,500. The development is open seven days a week from 11.30am -5.30pm.
