Persimmon gets serious about sustainability Committed to building ‘living' communities, Persimmon Homes Anglia has announced that it is trialling sustainable products at the company's Harleston-based site, Sancroft Square.

Andy Fuller, managing director for Persimmon Homes Anglia explains the initiative: "At Persimmon we are extremely serious about building homes in harmony with the existing landscape and while we are keen to satisfy the demand for new houses, we also put great thought and consideration into the local environments in which we build, ensuring the sustainability and longevity of our beautiful region."

At Sancroft Square, Persimmon is constructing homes with energy conservation high on the agenda. Solar panels are being installed on all three, four and five bedroom homes, while energy efficient heating systems are being employed and will include high efficiency gas condensing boilers, associated with stainless steel cylinders for the solar panels.

The designs will also include the use of highly effective insulation to reduce the amount of heat lost through the roof space and these new elements will further help homeowners with the growing costs of utility bills due to the improved insulation in place.

On a smaller scale, homes will benefit from water butts and bird boxes whilst the communal landscaping of the development will major on the provision of open green spaces and the planting of trees and shrubs.

Persimmon's aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions within the construction industry is being realised at Sancroft Square as the minimum carbon index rating of all the homes being constructed will be 8.0.

Andy concludes: "We know from experience that home owners today are increasingly embracing both the design and philosophy behind our eco friendly homes and Sancroft Square will be the first time we have developed a site of this scale with so many environmentally friendly features.

"Our properties will provide positive solutions to headline national issues such as rising fuel bills and we see this as a really positive step towards creating lasting new communities which are both sustainable and environmentally friendly."
