Costessey site manager wins ‘Pride in the Job’ award

Costessey site manager wins ‘Pride in the Job’ award Taylor Wimpey site manager Stephen Fulcher is celebrating after scooping a top UK building industry award for his work at The Hampdens development at Costessey in Norfolk.

Stephen collected a ‘Pride in the Job’ Quality Award in this year’s prestigious National House-Building Council (NHBC) competition.

The awards recognise site managers who consistently demonstrate outstanding commitment to the building of high-quality new homes – and ensure the smooth and safe running of developments.

Stephen (45), who started his career as a plasterer’s labourer and has also worked as a civil engineer, says the key to doing such a good job is ‘to get the paperwork done early each day’, so that when the tradesmen arrive on site at 7.30am, he can give them and their work his full attention.

“With the changing market, the past couple of years have been a tougher time on site,” Stephen explains. “But we keep team morale up by trying to always give praise when it’d due – after all, I wouldn’t have got this award without everyone at The Hampdens having pride in their job too.

“The most enjoyable aspect my working day is seeing customers happy with their new home – and so that’s why I make sure we aim for this and nothing less in every home we build.”

Steve Rolt, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East Anglia, comments: “Stephen’s selection by independent judges is testament to the enthusiasm he has for doing a good job every single day, and encouraging each member of his team to feel the same.

“He is well-deserving of the Quality Award thanks to his organisation and management skills, combined with engendering his team with a spirit of pride in building the highest quality new homes.”

Achieving a Quality Award is no mean feat. Site managers undergo a stringent selection process with judges visiting developments at key stages of the construction process to assess them on all aspects of home building.

Each of the 400 winners is chosen from more than 18,000 NHBC registered housebuilders who run sites across the country – making the Quality Award a highly respected and much-sought after accolade in the house building industry.

This year Taylor Wimpey regions throughout the UK, which includes George Wimpey and Bryant Homes developments, fielded a record 70 ‘Pride in the Job’ Quality Award-winners.

All the winners now go forward to compete in the next round for a Top 100 Seal of Excellence Award and a Regional Award, before the UK’s four Supreme Award winners are announced at a gala ceremony in January 2010.

Three and four-bedroom homes at The Hampdens are priced from £154,995 and enjoy an excellent location served by local amenities and just a short drive from Norwich.

The Marketing Suite is located off Dereham Road, Costessey, Norwich and is open Monday from 1pm to 5pm and Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, or visit the website at bryant.co.uk.
