George Wimpey sponsors dragon boat race George Wimpey has announced its sponsorship of this year’s Rotary Charity River Festival Dragon Boat Race and met with the City of Hereford Rotary Club this week to present them with a cheque for £1,275.

The housebuilder, who has provided sponsorship for the river festival for the last two years, has pledged its support towards the event taking place between Hunderton Bridge and the Rowing Club on Monday 31st August. The donation will go towards sponsoring the entry of three youth teams.

Joanna Russell, George Wimpey’s regional sales manager, comments: “We are always looking to get involved in supporting the communities in which we are building and so we’re delighted to have been able to provide support to such a worthwhile event as the River Festival. The Dragon Boat Race is a huge part of the day and helps to raise a lot of money for local charities, so being able to support three youth teams has been a pleasure. We wish all the teams the very best of luck!”

The Rotary Club is currently looking for teams of up to 16 people to register for the 250m race.

In addition to the Dragon Boat Race, visitors to the free River Festival will also be able to enjoy the Wye Duck Race, stalls, food tents, ice creams, a licensed bar, fun fair and tug of war.
