£4.5m sale of Bowes Moor sporting rights

31st August 2007 Print
Bowes Moor, Co Durham Joint selling agents, Savills and Youngs, have sold the sporting rights over Bowes Moor for a sum significantly in excess of the guide price of £4.5 million.

Neil Kilgour of Savills comments “Recent improvements to the Moor have created an excellent infrastructure including roads, butts, lunch huts and keepers’ houses which will be a real benefit to the new owner.”

Simon Rowarth of Youngs adds, ”As well as the improvements, the prospect of a Higher Level Stewardship Scheme offers the potential for the new owner to improve the performance of the moor from its current 10 year average of 1300 brace.”

Jonathan Kennedy of CKD Kennedy Macpherson, acting for the purchaser, said, “Top quality grouse moors with potential for improvement are a scarce commodity. It is great news that another enthusiastic shooting individual has made this commitment to grouse shooting and conservation on a wider scale”.
