Industrial action hits Portuguese air travel

23rd October 2007 Print
Portuguese air travel is scheduled to be hit by major strikes starting today, as well as the 25th and 27th of this month as talks between the Portuguese government and the Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SPAC) broke down.

In a statement issued by the pilots union, they criticized the government’s plans to, amongst others -allow the airlines to raise a pilot’s retirement age to 65 claiming this to be an issue of considerable seriousness with far reaching implications.

This planned industrial action is expected to cause severe inconvenience to the travelling public and major disruptions in operations for the national carrier TAP Portugal. Severe delays and flight cancellations are to be expected.

In its efforts to minimize the negative consequences which would result from this strike, TAP is advising its passengers to contact the TAP telephone number 0845 601 0932 to secure the latest information on the status of their flights.
