Smoking banned in Portugal Airports

4th January 2008 Print
With the entry into force of Portugal’s Law 37/2007, from January 1 smoking is now banned in all closed spaces with the exception of those set aside in the law itself.

ANA Aeroportos de Portugal SA released a statement saying it “has decided to adopt the absolute ban on smoking in public spaces and restricted areas in airports with the exceptions indicated below.”

“Furthermore and taking into account the size and type of passenger volume at Lisbon Airport (connecting passengers), ANA has decided to authorize the availability of smoking areas in this airport, set aside preferentially for passengers since they often spend long periods in an areas with no open-air access”, the company informs.

ANA further adds that “these specifically signed areas will be available from February 2008 onwards in the internal departure and transfer areas (in the Busgate Sul and Pier Norte area after passport control). Until these smoking rooms are operational, a total ban on smoking at Lisbon Airport will be enforced.”
