TAP offers group of children their ‘flight baptism’

19th December 2008 Print
Marking the Christmas period, TAP offered 18 children from Gaia supported by the Gaia Social Institution, the opportunity to fly by plane for the first time.

This flight baptism offered to children ranging from 6 to 12 years of age took place earlier this month on a return trip between Porto and Lisbon and a visiting program specially prepared for these travellers.

This unique experience began at the departures’ area of Sa Carneiro Airport at 10:50am on flight TP1961 piloted by captain Lima Basto and was aided by a crew keen to provide answers to the doubts and concerns of their young passengers. After landing in Lisbon, the group of 18 children accompanied by two technicians from the institution visited TAP where they had lunch and in the afternoon watched a show by the dolphins at Lisbon Zoo.

The return trip to Porto at the end of the day was no longer a surprise for the now experienced group of young travellers aboard flight TP 1980 under the command of Antonio Silva. To remember this Christmas experience, each child from the Gaia Social Institution will receive their First Flight certificate.

Through this initiative, in addition to offering the children this present, as has come to be a tradition within the scope of its social responsibility policy, TAP reaffirms its support for all those dedicated to working for those most in need, such as the Gaia Social Institution which works with housing access for families that for socio-economic reasons cannot afford this. The program organized by TAP also counted on the collaboration of Lisbon Zoo, Carristur, GroundForce and Cateringpor.
