Monarch carries over 3.2 million scheduled passengers in 2006

2006 was a record-breaking year for award-winning low cost airline Monarch, with the airline carrying over 3.2 million scheduled passengers in the twelve-month period, compared with 2.6 million in 2005 – a 23.9% increase year-on-year.

During the year the airline celebrated the introduction of a host of new routes including Birmingham to Almeria, Lanzarote, Menorca, Murcia and Palma; London Gatwick to Lanzarote and Tenerife; Manchester to Lanzarote and Menorca as well as London Luton to Palma.

Passenger traffic for December 2006 also continued to soar with the airline carrying 166,697 scheduled passengers, an 11.9% increase compared to December 2005. The percentage of bookings made on the airline’s website, www.flymonarch.com, was also up by 3%.

2007 will see passenger traffic rise further still with capacity increases on a number of popular routes as well as the airline’s expansion in to the Eastern Mediterranean with the first low-cost scheduled flights from the UK to Cyprus, and the introduction of eight new routes which include:

Birmingham to Ibiza

London Gatwick to Ibiza and Murcia

London Luton to Almeria, Ibiza and Larnaca

Manchester to Ibiza and Jerez

Monarch operates scheduled flights to Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal and Cyprus from Aberdeen, Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester and was named as Leisure Airline of the Year in recent Travel Industry Awards.
