Monarch launches self service check-in at Birmingham Airport

13th November 2007 Print
Award-winning low fares airline flyMonarch.com has launched a new self service check-in system at Birmingham Airport, which will speed up the overall check-in process and reduce the amount of time passengers spend queuing to check in.

The new Common Use Self Service kiosks (CUSS), which are situated in the middle of the concourse of Terminal 1 at Birmingham airport, will enable passengers travelling on scheduled Monarch flights to retrieve their booking (by swiping their passport through the machine), check themselves in for their flight and print their boarding card. Any pre-allocated seats will automatically be assigned, and if no seat has been pre-booked, the passenger will be given the option to select their seat from those remaining in the cabin.

Passengers travelling with hold baggage can then take these to the ‘fast bag drop’ desk, where they will be tagged as normal and sent down the baggage belt to be loaded on to the aircraft.

Commenting on the introduction of self service check-in, Liz Savage, managing director of flyMonarch.com said, “Monarch is the first low-fares airline to launch the new CUSS kiosks at Birmingham Airport’s Terminal 1 and we are confident that our passengers will very quickly realise the benefits of using them.

We consistently try to improve the levels of service we provide for our passengers and the new CUSS kiosks, in addition to online check-in which launched last year, will help us to do this by streamlining the check-in process and shortening queues at the airport. We successfully launched CUSS services in Manchester last summer and have seen up to 20% of passengers using the facility to avoid the check-in queues so we are delighted to now be offering the service from Birmingham as well.“

flyMonarch.com operates scheduled flights from Birmingham airport to Alicante, Almeria, Faro, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malaga, Menorca, Murcia, Palma and Tenerife and was named as Leisure Airline of the Year in recent Travel Industry Awards for the second year in succession. Fares, including taxes, start from just £29.50 one-way (£45.99 return).

In addition to year-round low fares, flyMonarch.com also offers a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals onboard with prices from £3.00. Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all experienced on some other airlines, or from only £15, why not try one of our 48 extra-legroom seats which offer up to six inches of extra space? Regular travellers are rewarded too, with a range of benefits through the airline’s loyalty scheme, Vantage Club.

Passengers travelling on scheduled flights can also avoid the queues at the airport and take advantage of online check-in which is available between seven days and 4.5 hours prior to departure.
