Monarch's one million milestone!

Low fares airline Monarch is today celebrating a significant milestone as it welcomes its 1 millionth scheduled passenger onboard its Gatwick to Malaga service, and surprised two lucky passengers to mark the occasion.

Roderick and Hazel MacArthur from Rotherfield, East Sussex, were Monarch’s millionth passengers to travel on the Gatwick - Malaga route and were presented with a pair of free flights courtesy of the award-winning airline as they checked in for their flight this morning. The lucky couple also received complimentary meals and drinks onboard and a bottle of champagne to assist the celebrations.

Roderick MacArthur said, “We’re thrilled to be Monarch’s one millionth Gatwick – Malaga passengers and are delighted with the free flights. We travel to Malaga around five or six times a year as we own a house over there and always fly with Monarch to make the most of their low fares and frequent flyer scheme, which rewards us with benefits. This has been a fantastic start to our holiday and we’ll be booking our free flights as soon as we get back!”

Commenting on today’s milestone, Liz Savage, Managing Director of Monarch’s scheduled services said, “We are delighted to surprise Mr and Mrs MacArthur with these flights and look forward to welcoming them onboard again very soon.

“Today’s milestone is a great achievement. We began operating flights to Malaga when we launched our scheduled services from Gatwick in May 2003 and demand for the route continues to grow. This year we have already sold 76,000 seats and this summer we will be operating up to 38 flights per week on the route.”

Seats can be pre-booked at £5 per one-way flight to avoid the last minute free-for-all experienced on some other airlines, or from only £15, extra-legroom seats are available, which offer up to six inches of extra space. Passengers travelling on scheduled flights can also avoid the queues at the airport and take advantage of online check-in which is available between seven days and 4.5 hours prior to departure.
