High flying Valentine’s proposal!

Love was most definitely in the air onboard a Monarch flight from London Luton to Alicante on Valentine’s Day as an unsuspecting passenger received a special Valentine’s proposal at 35,000 feet.

Sharalyn Anderson, aged 52 from Leigh on Sea was bowled over when, instead of being served the usual in-flight meal, she received a special Valentine’s card hand delivered by Monarch’s Cabin Crew with the all important proposal from boyfriend Mick Hill (53).

After the initial shock and once Sharalyn had accepted the proposal, Monarch captain Andy Farrell made a special announcement to the rest of the passengers onboard and Cabin Crew aided the celebrations by cracking open a bottle of champagne for the special couple.

A stunned Sharalyn said, “I’m absolutely amazed! I had no idea what Mick was planning as he led me to think that he didn’t believe in Valentine’s Day, so I was surprised to receive a card let alone a marriage proposal. I had no hesitation in saying yes and would like to thank the Monarch Crew for making the occasion so special.”

Mick, from Louth in Lincolnshire, who is a regular flyer with Monarch, met Sharalyn, a specialist nurse in the Colchester area with specific responsibility for MS sufferers, in the departure lounge at Luton Airport in May last year. He said, “I fly regularly to Alicante as I own a sail boat there and like to visit for the weekend, so it must have been fate that we ended up sitting next to each other in departures at Luton airport last May and got chatting. We decided to exchange numbers and the rest, as they say, is history!

“I thought that as we met at the airport it would be very fitting to propose mid-flight and when better than Valentine’s Day! I was nervous of what Sharalyn’s reaction would be but I’m over the moon she said yes and look forward to continuing the celebrations in Alicante this weekend.”
