airBaltic to offer flights to Yerevan and Almaty

The Latvian airline airBaltic will open up new routes in the summer of 2008 from Riga to the Armenian capital city of Yerevan and the largest city in Kazakhstan, Almaty.

Bertolt Flick, President and CEO of airBaltic: "airBaltic is working hard to expand its network of flights toward the East, and the new routes to Yerevan and Almaty will be just one part of our strategy of being more active in the region. These two cities will be added to our network of routes, which already offers nearly 20 destinations in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Azerbaijan."

airBaltic will fly from R?ga to Yerevan three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) and to Almaty – two times a week (Thursdays and Sundays). Prices for one-way tickets will start at LVL 49 and LVL 99 respectively, including airport taxes. The flight to Yerevan will take 3 hours and 50 minutes, while the flight to Almaty will take 5 hours and 35 minutes.

Yerevan, which sits in the Ararat valley, is more than 1,000 years old and has a fascinating and diverse history. Various cultures have crossed paths here, and they have created a particular aura in the city.

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan and was the country’s capital until 1998. The city’s appearance has been shaped not only by traditions of history and culture, but also by its important role as Kazakhstan’s centre for business, finance and industry.
