Bertolt Flick, President and CEO of airBaltic: “The summer season for us illustrated a couple of trends. We had an increase in passenger numbers of more than 40%, and most of those people were passengers who travelled to Riga or Vilnius. From our hubs, passengers mostly travelled to nearby business centres or international hubs. I am very pleased that demand for our new routes increased dynamically – nearly 20,000 passengers flew to Rome, more than 17,000 to Athens, and more than 11,000 to Liepaja.

“I believe that there is much more potential for increased use of air transport services in the Baltic States, and it is of key importance for us to optimise flights to destinations that are already in demand, as well as to offer new destinations, too.”

During the summer of 2008, airBaltic will open 9 new routes (Venice, Nice, Ålesund, Billund, Sochi, Yerevan, Chisinau, Almaty, Kuopio) from Riga airport and overall will operate flights already to 48 destinations.

airBaltic will offer 3 new destinations (Paris, Simferopol, Odessa) from Vilius and operate flights already on 22 routes. During the summer of 2007, airBaltic opened 11 new routes from Riga and 7 new routes from Vilnius.
